INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND

Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council ("the Council") is committed to providing high quality services to all who live or work in the Borough and to local employers and visitors.

As part of our commitment to improve services, information relating to the notification of tenders is now available on a new electronic Tendering System "e-Tenders" via the Internet.

e-Tenders has been developed to provide an alternative method of communicating tender information between the Council and Suppliers (it does not replace the manual, paper-based procedures currently in use).

e-Tenders also contains the same information as provided in the public notice circulated to newspapers and journals.

The first stage of a two stage rollout of the electronic tendering system enables the Council to communicate details of tender requirements electronically via the Internet and provides Suppliers and the public access to Council tender information via the Internet.

Tender notices state the nature and purpose of the contract the Council intends to place with a supplier(s) and provides initial information for interested and appropriate suppliers.

The second stage, planned for 2005, will enable Suppliers to submit their tender documentation electronically via the website to secure, encrypted and time-locked storage.
